Following the death of Amy Winehouse, the DJ and music producer said he had lost his musical soulmate.

And in his first performance since her death Mark Ronson has paid tribute to the singer in the best way he knows how.

The songwriter, 35, took to the stage to perform Amys hit song Valerie with The Zutons singer Dave McCabe, who wrote the chart topper.

Mark paid tribute to his close friend at his first performance since her death at the Greenwich Summer Sessions gig yesterday.

He told the crowd: She made brilliant music, more than I'll make in my entire life.

In his first gig since her death, the British producer and songwriter invited members of her backing band on stage for a version of Valerie.

Mark Ronson played the same song at the start of the gig with The Zutons' singer Dave McCabe, who originally wrote the song, on vocals.

Coming together: Mark played Rehab and was joined by Charlie Waller, lead singer of The Rumblestrips for a cover of Back to Black.

The DJ told the crowd: It's been a s**t week and it's great coming out to play to you guys, that's the great thing about music.

If you love Amy and her music make sure you clap your hands right now. I went to her service yesterday and a Rabbi said 'a person's life is measured in deeds, not years'; hers was pretty f**king special.

I'm not getting emotional or morbid but it's nice to share this moment with people who appreciate good music. Amy Winehouse was a genius and has made more brilliant music than I'll ever make.

As well as Valerie, Mark played Rehab and was joined by Charlie Waller, lead singer of The Rumblestrips for a cover of Back to Black.

Ronson, who produced the tragic star's Grammy-winning album Back to Black, was left devastated by her death on Saturday and cancelled his DJ set at the Cartier International Polo event in Windsor on Sunday.

After hearing the news about Amy's death on Saturday he said: 'She was my musical soulmate and like a sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life.'

Fans who made it to the gig said Mark Ronson had got the tone just right.

Sasha Waxman from Lincolnshire told BBC reporters: I thought he was quite respectful of her and her family. It was quite emotional.

Mark Ronson attended Amy Winehouse's funeral on Tuesday in north London with her family and close friends.

Police will have to wait up to four weeks for the results of toxicology tests to find out her cause of death.
