The Canadian Judicial Council will move forward with a public inquiry in the case of a Winnipeg judge who was caught in a sex scandal involving her husband and one of his former clients.
Associate Chief Justice Lori Douglas was being investigated by the council, and had stopped hearing cases until a review was complete.
The council now says it will proceed with a public inquiry, concluding "the matter may be serious enough to warrant the judge's removal from office. The (Review) Panel has therefore decided that an inquiry committee should investigate the matter."
No dates for the inquiry were given.
Douglas' husband, Jack King, was accused of pressuring a former client to have sex with Douglas in 2003. The accusation was made by Alexander Chapman, who says King gave him sexually explicit photos of his wife.
Earlier this year, King pleaded guilty to professional misconduct and received a reprimand.
King admitted sharing photos with Chapman, but his lawyer said his client was acting without his wife's knowledge.
Douglas was working in Family Court at the time she was ordered to stop hearing cases.
