A number of people close to Winehouse, who died last Saturday, described how she was a very generous person and had little interest in being a celebrity.
Former stylist Alex Foden told interviewer Dan Wootton: "Inside the house, she so loved always [being] welcoming to anybody who was there. She'd invite her fans off the street. She sent me to rehab every time. She was selfless. She didn't care about money or anything like that.
"Given an opportunity, I think she would have liked to change her life because she loved cats. She'd rather work with cats, had she loved children and cats. All she wanted was to start a family and open a singing school. The price of fame was hard for Amy."
Close friend Luke Mills, who is the promoter of Winehouse's goddaughter Dionne Bromfield, continued: "Amy is massively caring. Over the years she has gone through a serious amount of money on gifts. When Dionne was out in Selfridges, she would try not to look at things because Amy would, if she saw her looking at stuff, buy it. She spent 11,000 on Christmas decorations.
"If she did not get what she wanted she behaved like a toddler. She would throw a hissy fit and not do what you wanted her to do. If she said she wanted a bottle of vodka to do a private gig, you got her a bottle of vodka."
Zalon Thompson, a backing singer who was signed by her label, said that he is "eternally grateful" to have been mentored by "a true rock star".
He added: "She actually wasn't really interested in the whole celebrity world. She was more into being a housewife, singing in bars and thinking about children. That was the Amy that I knew - inviting you into her house and making you a cup of tea."
