More then three kilometres of the west end Lake Shore Boulevard will be closed to traffic this weekend to play host to the Toronto Caribbean Carnival.

The annual parade, seen as the showcase of the Caribbean Carnival - formerly Caribana - takes place Saturday, July 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The parade starts inside Exhibition Place, heads in front of the Direct Energy Centre, turns right to go south on Newfoundland Drive and right again to go west along the Lake Shore.

Lake Shore Boulevard West will be closed from Strachan Avenue to Colborne Lodge Drive from 1 a.m. on July 30 to 6 a.m. on July 31.

GO Transit will run extra service along the Lakeshore lines this weekend. On July 30 and 31, you can ride all day from anywhere on the Lakeshore lines (Aldershot to Oshawa) to the Exhibition for $10 per day.

Started in 1967, the festival now attracts close to one million visitors. In addition to the parade, Caribbean events are planned throughout the weekend.

It begins on Thursday at 7 p.m. with the King and Queen Competition and Show, a display of the talent and artistic skill of the designers and costume builders, at the Allan Lamport Stadium, 151 King St. W.

On Friday at 7 p.m., also at Allan Lamport, is the Pan Alive, which showcases the talent of steel pan performers ranging in age from early teens to adults.

On Sunday, The Caribbean Carnival Lime, a free event, takes place at Ontario Place. The festival wraps up Sunday with a new event, a Canada Rugby League International Test Match being held in Markham.

The TTC will provide extra service Saturday for the annual Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto parade. Buses and streetcars to Exhibition Place and the parade route on Lake Shore Boulevard West will run every few minutes:

- 509 Harbourfront from Union Station to Exhibition Place

- 511 Bathurst southbound from Bathurst Station to Exhibition Place

- 29 Dufferin southbound from Dufferin Station to Exhibition Place

- Bathurst Station express bus to Exhibition Place

- Keele Station express bus to Parkside Drive/Lake Shore Boulevard West

- Dundas West Station express bus to Queen Street/Roncesvalles Avenue

- Lansdowne Station express bus via Jameson Avenue, to Springhurst Avenue/Dunn Avenue

TD IRIE MUSIC FESTIVAL

The TD IRIE Music Festival is a multi-day, family friendly festival taking place Friday, July 29 to Monday, Aug. 1.

Join the celebration of music (from reggae to salsa, soul to African), dance from the African Diaspora presented in association with dance Immersion, spoken word/literature, visual arts exhibition, movies, tropical food and drinks and more.

The festival is free at two main stages with live performances at Queen's Park and Yonge-Dundas Square.

The festival kicks off Friday, July 29 with the inauguration of the IRIE Music Awards, celebrating some of Canada's best reggae and world music artists. The IRIE Awards ceremony and concert takes place at the Phoenix Concert Theatre and is a ticketed event.

The festival continues at Queen's Park North with three days of world class programming from July 30 to Aug. 1.

You can also catch some of Canada's most exciting, emerging soul and R and B, artists at IRIE Soul, presented in association with Urban Music Week at Yonge-Dundas Square for one day July 30.

See some classic music films, free, under the stars at Nathan Phillips Square July 30 and 31 and experience the creativity of IRIE Green Art inside the Rotunda at Toronto City Hall from July 29 to Aug. 1.

KENSINGTON PEDESTRIAN SUNDAYS

The following streets will be closed July 31 from noon to 7 p.m.:

- Augusta Avenue from Dundas Street West to College Street;

- Kensington Avenue from Dundas Street West to Baldwin Street;

- Baldwin Street from the parking garage to Augusta Avenue;

- St. Andrew Street from the parking garage to Kensington Avenue.

JERKFEST

Combine live stage performances, prizes, kids activities, a celebrity jerk-tasting competition and more than 20 chefs cooking up their top versions of jerk food and you have the 10th Annual JERKFEST Aug. 6 and 7 at Centennial Park, 256 Centennial Park Rd.

TO KEEP AN EYE OUT

- King Street is closed from Jane to Pine due to water repairs.

- Leslie Street is closed at Nymark due a watermain break.

- At 77 Finch Ave. E., the westbound lanes are closed from Kenneth Avenue to Dudley due to crane hoisting beginning at 9 a.m. July 31.

TRAFFIC CLOSURES

- There will be curb lane closures in the eastbound and westbound lanes from Bloor Street West, from Green Lanes to Resurrection Road, until July 29.

- Lane restriction will be on 2025 Midland Ave., from Ellesmere Road to Cosentino Drive, due to construction until July 29 at 4 p.m.

- At 100 King St., at Bay Street to York, curb lane will be closed nightly from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. until July 29.

- Lawrence Avenue East from McCowan Road to Burnview Crescent will be closed due to emergency borehole work until 6 p.m. July 29 with two eastbound and two westbound lanes remaining open. Eastbound will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., while westbound lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

- Various curb lanes will be occupied from University Avenue from Dundas Street West to Queen Street West until 3:30 p.m. July 29.

- Bathurst Street, from Queen Street West to Dupont Street, various northbound and southbound lane closures in off peak hours, will be closed for utility cut repairs until July 30 at 5 p.m.

- Bathurst Street, from Queen Street West to Dupont Street, various northbound and southbound lanes, will be closed in off-peak hours for utility cut repairs until 5 p.m. July 30.

- There will be lane closures at Midland Avenue, from 300 metres north and 300 metres south from Hwy. 401, until 5 a.m. July 30.

- Keele Street, from Finch Avenue West to Murray Ross Parkway, there will be northbound and southbound curb lane closures for road work and utilities relocation until midnight July 31.

- There are lane restriction on eastbound Kingston Road, from Poplar Road to Faircroft Boulevard, until 7 p.m. July 31.

- There will be lane restrictions on eastbound Kingston Road, from Poplar Road to Faircroft Boulevard, until July 31 at 7 p.m.

- The northwest corner of Leslie Street and Longwood Drive, the bus bay and sidewalk is closed for retaining wall work until July 31 at 7 p.m.

- Albert Street, from Bay to James street, is closed until Aug. 1 due to a street event.

- Salem Avenue will be closed, from Dupont to Hallam streets, for a street party from 1 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 6.

- The Lake Shore Boulevard eastbound ramp, to eastbound Gardiner Expressway, will be closed continuously due to detour construction until Aug. 1 at 7 a.m.

- From Aug. 1 to 5, maintenance activity will close all westbound lanes on the Gardiner Expressway from Dufferin Street to Jameson Avenue, Monday evening to Thursday evening only.

- There will be a complete closure of Lawrence Avenue East from east of Frank Faubert Drive to east of the sewage pumping station from 7 a.m. Aug. 2 to almost midnight Aug. 6.

- Queens Quay East, from Bonnycastle to Parliament streets, is closed until Aug. 8 at 9 a.m. due to filming.

- There will be occasional lane closures for borehole drilling, from York Street from Front Street West to Wellington Street West, until Aug. 8 just before midnight.

- Gerrard Street East from Blackburn Street to River Street, the eastbound curb lane is closed and the road is down to one westbound lane until Sept. 15 just before midnight.

SPECIAL NOTE

- A portion of Orchard View Boulevard, one block north of Eglinton Avenue, will be closed to traffic until Thanksgiving with the street being turned into a small urban park from Yonge Street to the parking lot at 33 Orchard View. Tables and chairs will be set out, greenery will be planted and a weekly AppleTree farmers market will fill the space on a weekly basis.

LONG-TERM CONSTRUCTION

- Single lane restrictions and periodic lane diversions on Keele Street in both directions from south of Four Winds to north of Murray Ross Parkway due to excavation and building of shafts for subway tunnels. These are long-term lane closures. Work is expected to be complete in late 2012.

- Hwy. 427 is getting a two-year facelift, which started in late May. Drivers may expect traffic delays due to the major improvements to the highway. Improvements include:

- concrete pavement and base repairs to the southbound collector lanes, from Mimico Creek, to the Canadian Pacific Railway structure;

- a new transit-only lane from Eglinton Avenue West eastbound to Hwy. 427 southbound collector lanes;

- and widening of the Dundas Street West north east-west ramp to two lanes.

- Pottery Road, from Bayview to Broadview avenues, will be closed until Sept. 5 to complete road, sidewalk and watermain improvements. The work includes road reconstruction with curbs, guiderails and retaining walls on Pottery Road, as well as a new sidewalk, water main replacement, storm water upgrades and improvements to the Lower Don bike trail crossing at Pottery Road, and the relocation of various utilities.

ONGOING TRAFFIC CLOSURES

Avenue Road

Avenue Road is undergoing a number of construction projects. Avenue, from Dupont Street to Lawrence Avenue West, will be reduced to one lane in each direction due to watermain installation until Dec. 31 at midnight. There will be Avenue Road lane closures, from Eglinton Avenue to Strathallan Boulevard, due to watermain installations until June 30 at midnight. There will be a minimum of one lane maintained at all times. There will be northbound lane closure of Avenue Road, from Glenview Avenue to Caribou Road, due to watermain installation until July 31 at 7 p.m. Watermain installations will have restrictions on Avenue Road, from Cortleigh Boulevard to Glengrove Avenue, until Aug. 31 at 3 p.m.
